Best spots to watch USA in the Women’s World Cup – Jacksonville FL

It’s the fourth of July week and the US Women’s National Soccer team is representing USA in the semi final of the 2019 Women’s World Cup… Holy crap that’s patriotic. Time to break out the face paint, drape a flag over everything that can hold one, and start “I Believe That We Will Win” chants everywhere we go. The hype is real and if you don’t have chills just thinking about it then you need to grab a USA shirt, look yourself in the mirror, and start with a quiet USA chant that will turn to roar of patriotism. Then keep reading on to figure out where you’ll be watching the game in Jacksonville FL.

  • July 2nd, 2019 @ 3pm
  • The USA Women’s team takes on England, in what is guaranteed to be a thriller. The USA is 3-1-1 in the last 5 games against England, with the most recent finish being a 2-2 tie.

If you live out towards the beaches, then you have some great options. Fionn Maccools in Ponte Vedra puts together a great watch party for the games. With 40 beers on tap, awesome Irish food, and plenty of TVs near the bar area, this is a great stop whether there is a game on or not.

If you’re in Jacksonville Beach, then we have that covered as well. Lynch’s Irish Pub is another fun Irish pub to stop in and grab some Irish cuisine and watch a game. The game starts at 3pm so it will be happy hour with $2.50 Domestic Bottles and Drafts, $3.50 Import and Craft Beers and $3.50 wells. Also, stick around after the game for Trivia Night beginning at 7:45pm.

Of course, if you’re further north, Culhane’s Irish Pub in Atlantic Beach is a local favorite. In fact, even if you aren’t in Atlantic Beach, Culhane’s is worth the trip with over 30 large HD TVs and a great happy hour (see details below). Starting at 3pm, Culhane’s is set up for a wonderful afternoon. If Atlantic Beach is too far, Culhane’s just recently opened another location in Tinseltown.

Town Center/Southside

If you are in the mood for some of the more traditional places to watch a sports game, then the St. Johns Town Center is going to be the place for you. Topgolf has a great bar with a bunch of TVs so catching the game is easy and everyone has something to do. It goes without saying that Buffalo Wilds Wings is a staple stop when it comes to catching all things sports. You can’t go wrong with hundreds of TVs, projectors, and simply an environment made to watch sports.

An often forgotten option to catch a game and get some food is Mellow Mushroom. In our opinion, the pizza is a bit expensive, but it is delicious. There are plenty of TVs around the bar so you are able to enjoy your favorite game and fill up. My personal choice is a beer and an appetizer. This is a great way to save some money and still have more than enough to eat. We recommend trying the pepperoni cheesy bread as an inexpensive hack to still have a pizza while only spending $7.

Downtown/Riverside/Five Points/Avondale

We didn’t forget about those living in downtown Jax. Our personal favorite viewing location for all things sports is Hoptingers in 5 Points. A great seating selection, awesome beers on tap, amazing food, and a ton of TVs create the perfect formula for a game-ready atmosphere. I have no doubt that fans will come out in numbers— so be ready to cheer, chant, and drink alongside all of your closest friends. Don’t forget that they have a nice location in Jacksonville Beach, as well, so the entire area is covered.

Hoptinger 5 Points

A couple of other great choices include the Players Grill and European Street Cafe. The Player’s Grill is more of your typical sports bar vibe with decent food and a ton of TVs spread out throughout the restaurant. The European Street Cafe is a hidden gem. There are just a couple of seats and TVs at the bar so come early and grab a seat. However, BOGO beer during game times make for a great way to enjoy the game and have some cold beer.

Hopefully you have been able to find what you were looking for, however, if you think we missed anything please contact us or leave a comment below with your favorite places to watch the game.

Where will you be for the 4th?

Downtown Jacksonville

Lets be honest- when in Jacksonville, there is only one place to be for the Fourth of July celebrations downtown by the river.

When I first mentioned I moved to Downtown Jacksonville, I was warned of two very specific days: the Florida-Georgia Football game and the Fourth of July. Both days have come and gone many times and I have yet to be disappointed.

The Downtown Fourth of July celebration is like nothing I have ever seen. It’s a unique time for everyone in Jacksonville to come together and flood the Bank of the St. Johns River in awe of the most elegant firework displays around.

Put on your red, white and blue to join us along the majestic St. Johns River for the best July 4th Fireworks show on the First Coast! The show will begin at 9:45 p.m.

The show will be seen from both the North and South Banks, in addition to viewing from Brooklyn and under the Fuller Warren Bridge, where the Riverside Arts Market is held.

  • When: Thursday, July 4, 2019,  9:45 pm
  • Where: 2 Independent Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32202
  • Cost: Free

Riverside Arts Market

Jacksonville 4th of July

As you might have noticed above, the location of the Riverside Arts Market is a great viewing area. Fortunately, the Arts Market is thinking the same thing.

They will be throwing a party for the Fourth to celebrate in everyone’s favorite space under the Fuller Warren Bridge. There will be fun for everyone, and some of our favorite food trucks and vendors from Riverside Arts Market. There will be live music, beer by Salt Life Food Shack and Intuition Ale Works, kids activities, and the City of Jacksonville, Florida – Government‘s firework show at 9:45pm.

River Stage schedule:

  • 6:30: Arvid Smith
  • 8:15: LPT
  • 9:45: Fireworks

Jacksonville Beach

If you are unable to make it Downtown, Jacksonville Beach also puts on a fabulous fireworks display at the Jax Beach Pier. It is recommended that you arrive early and bring your own chair and/or blankets that suit your needs.

100 Degrees doesn’t mean no fun – Jacksonville Indoors

We get it. You see, we live here too. It’s almost June, and that means one thing… it’s going to be hot! We’ve already had days where touching the steering wheel is the equivalent to 10 year old boys playing a dangerous game of who can touch the stove top the longest (spoiler: there is no winner in that game). Good news is I still can’t sit still when it’s 100 degrees outside, so I went ahead and consolidated some of the best things to do in Jacksonville indoors for those days its simply TOO HOT.

Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) –
Jacksonville Indoors

Cool off at the Museum

The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville promotes the discovery, knowledge, and advancement of the art, artists, and ideas of our time. If you’re looking for a relaxing opportunity to walk and admire some amazing art, this is the place to go!

MOCA Jacksonville, a private nonprofit visual arts educational institution and cultural institute of the University of North Florida, serves the community and its visitors through exhibitions, collections, educational programs, and publications designed to enhance an understanding and appreciation of modern and contemporary art with particular emphasis on works created from 1960 to the present.

Some additional perks around town include Sweet Pete’s and the Library. Additionally, one of Jacksonville’s best steakhouses, The Cowford Chophouse, is just a few blocks away. All of the above are great ways to hide from the heat and top off the day with a juicy steak and sugary sweets.

Jacksonville’s Hands On Children’s Museum

Help the kids cool off

Ok, you caught me… this might not be one that I personally visit frequently, however, I can remember my childhood and how much I loved visiting museums where I could interact with everything. What’s a better way to stay cool while ensuring the kids are having a blast and tuckered out by the end of the day?

The Hands On Children’s Museum promotes hands-on participatory education for children of all ages.  They encourage discovery through observation, inquiry, creative construction, role-playing, problem-solving and free play.  The museum motivates children to develop their cognitive, physical and social skills while enjoying fruitful interaction with their peers and adults.
