Here’s what’s going down in the Jacksonville Art Scene

Jacksonville 4th of July

Independence Day is fast approaching, and Will Smith fighting Aliens does not seem to be on the radar this year. That being said, we have managed to find so many great ways to ensure your Jacksonville 4th of July will be that exciting.

Jacksonville 4th of July – Pre-Fourth Festivities

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Independence Day Game

Come check out The Jumbo Shrimp for their specialty, patriotic “frozen treat” jerseys to help celebrate our Nation’s independence. Watch as the Jumbo Shrimp take on the Chattanooga Lookouts and redefine the meaning of “BOMBs bursting in air” (That’s my baseball pun).

Fun fact: you can log on to jaxshrimp.com to bid on these one of a kind July 3rd jerseys!!

Additionally, in partnership with the Nimnicht Family Of Dealerships, The Jumbo Shrimp are proud to give away patriotic Jumbo Shrimp caps to the first 2,000 fans through the gates. To top it off, stick around for the largest fireworks show of the season following the game as we celebrate American Independence.

Where will you be for the 4th?

Downtown Jacksonville

Lets be honest- when in Jacksonville, there is only one place to be for the Fourth of July celebrations downtown by the river.

When I first mentioned I moved to Downtown Jacksonville, I was warned of two very specific days: the Florida-Georgia Football game and the Fourth of July. Both days have come and gone many times and I have yet to be disappointed.

The Downtown Fourth of July celebration is like nothing I have ever seen. It’s a unique time for everyone in Jacksonville to come together and flood the Bank of the St. Johns River in awe of the most elegant firework displays around.

Put on your red, white and blue to join us along the majestic St. Johns River for the best July 4th Fireworks show on the First Coast! The show will begin at 9:45 p.m.

The show will be seen from both the North and South Banks, in addition to viewing from Brooklyn and under the Fuller Warren Bridge, where the Riverside Arts Market is held.

  • When: Thursday, July 4, 2019,  9:45 pm
  • Where: 2 Independent Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32202
  • Cost: Free
  • Contact Phone: (904) 630-3690
  • Contact Email: events@coj.net

Riverside Arts Market

Jacksonville 4th of July

As you might have noticed above, the location of the Riverside Arts Market is a great viewing area. Fortunately, the Arts Market is thinking the same thing.

They will be throwing a party for the Fourth to celebrate in everyone’s favorite space under the Fuller Warren Bridge. There will be fun for everyone, and some of our favorite food trucks and vendors from Riverside Arts Market. There will be live music, beer by Salt Life Food Shack and Intuition Ale Works, kids activities, and the City of Jacksonville, Florida – Government‘s firework show at 9:45pm.

River Stage schedule:

  • 6:30: Arvid Smith
  • 8:15: LPT
  • 9:45: Fireworks

Food:

Jacksonville Beach

If you are unable to make it Downtown, Jacksonville Beach also puts on a fabulous fireworks display at the Jax Beach Pier. It is recommended that you arrive early and bring your own chair and/or blankets that suit your needs.

Our Calendar of Events is rapidly evolving, and daily updates ensure that everything Jacksonville has to offer is outlined clearly for you.

100 Degrees doesn’t mean no fun – Jacksonville Indoors

We get it. You see, we live here too. It’s almost June, and that means one thing… it’s going to be hot! We’ve already had days where touching the steering wheel is the equivalent to 10 year old boys playing a dangerous game of who can touch the stove top the longest (spoiler: there is no winner in that game). Good news is I still can’t sit still when it’s 100 degrees outside, so I went ahead and consolidated some of the best things to do in Jacksonville indoors for those days its simply TOO HOT.

Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) –
Jacksonville Indoors

Cool off at the Museum

The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville promotes the discovery, knowledge, and advancement of the art, artists, and ideas of our time. If you’re looking for a relaxing opportunity to walk and admire some amazing art, this is the place to go!

MOCA Jacksonville, a private nonprofit visual arts educational institution and cultural institute of the University of North Florida, serves the community and its visitors through exhibitions, collections, educational programs, and publications designed to enhance an understanding and appreciation of modern and contemporary art with particular emphasis on works created from 1960 to the present.

Some additional perks around town include Sweet Pete’s and the Library. Additionally, one of Jacksonville’s best steakhouses, The Cowford Chophouse, is just a few blocks away. All of the above are great ways to hide from the heat and top off the day with a juicy steak and sugary sweets.

Museum of Science and History (MOSH)

Jacksonville Indoors

Jacksonville’s Museum of Science & History makes science, history and innovation accessible for all! Whatever your age or interest, there’s always something to see and explore across three levels of exciting exhibits. From interactive, award-winning favorites like Currents of Time and Atlantic Tails to the Florida Naturalist’s Center (which houses animals that are native to Northeast Florida), there is something for everybody to discover. Indulge your curiosity with a science or live animal show, or explore distant galaxies in one of our planetarium programs. When visiting Northeast Florida’s only science and history museum, there is no limit to what you can discover!

Jacksonville’s Hands On Children’s Museum

Help the kids cool off

Ok, you caught me… this might not be one that I personally visit frequently, however, I can remember my childhood and how much I loved visiting museums where I could interact with everything. What’s a better way to stay cool while ensuring the kids are having a blast and tuckered out by the end of the day?

The Hands On Children’s Museum promotes hands-on participatory education for children of all ages.  They encourage discovery through observation, inquiry, creative construction, role-playing, problem-solving and free play.  The museum motivates children to develop their cognitive, physical and social skills while enjoying fruitful interaction with their peers and adults.

Other plans:

This memorial day weekend in Jacksonville is expected to be HOT, HOT, HOT, so be sure you have your sunscreen, a cool beverage, and a quick escape to some Air Conditioning. I know when I find myself tired, thirsty, and sweating, I will be looking for some cool things to do so might I recommend the following as some quick tips to stay cool:

  1. Be sure you dress appropriately. Only in Florida are is it always acceptable to wear shorts, flip flops, and no sleeves.
  2. Grab your Big Gulp or Camelback and fill it with an ICED beverage. This is sure to be clutch when trying to cool off.
  3. Scope out some great restaurants, bars, or friends houses that are close by and have a plan to make a quick escape when in need of that crisp A/C.
  4. Find a pool, beach, or heck get that Fire Hydrant running. Record highs call for history making moments! Stay cool and have fun this weekend.

Thanks for reading. As always, feel free to contact us if we missed something, or if you have any ideas for us! It takes a city to keep each other in The KNOW, but we vow to always do our best.
